The District Hospital Lienz (BKH Lienz) provides medical care for the population of East Tyrol as well as parts of Upper Carinthia, and additionally for guests visiting this attractive tourist region. The owners of BKH Lienz are all 33 municipalities of East Tyrol. Due to its geographical location, the district hospital offers a comprehensive range of medical, nursing, and therapeutic services with an almost 100% self-sufficient level of care.

• Ophthalmology, interdisciplinary day clinic for cataract surgery
• Anesthesiology and intensive care medicine
• Gynecology and obstetrics
  • Breast Health Center
• Ear, nose, and throat medicine
• Internal medicine, including:
  • Dialysis unit
  • Cardiac catheterization laboratory
  • Laboratory services
  • Palliative care unit
  • Acute geriatrics / remobilization unit
  • Intensive care unit
• Institute of Nuclear Medicine, molecular imaging, thyroid diagnostics
• Institute of Radiology
• Pediatrics and adolescent medicine, including:
  • Intermediate Care Unit (monitoring ward)
• Neurology, including:
  • Stroke Unit (intensive care unit for stroke patients)
• Orthopedics and traumatology
• Psychiatry and psychotherapeutic medicine
• Urology
• Day clinic
• Central unit for physical medicine and rehabilitation

• European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Provisional Replacement Certificate:
Please present your European Health Insurance Card or a provisional replacement certificate so that the costs of your treatment or stay can be billed directly to your health insurance provider. Please note that in Austria a statutory co-payment must be paid for inpatient stays. The current daily amount is €15.60 (as of 2026) and must be paid personally by you.
• International Billing (Non-EU):
If you are not an EU citizen, all incurred costs will be billed directly to you unless you have travel insurance. Costs can only be billed directly through the travel insurance provider if they contact us.

If you have private supplementary insurance, please present your insurance card or insurance policy together with a photo ID. With your written consent, we will contact your insurance company directly to clarify coverage for your stay and treatment.

If the insurance company confirms coverage, billing will be settled directly with the insurer. If no supplementary insurance is available or if the costs of the special class are not covered, you may of course still make use of the extensive services of the special class at your own expense.

Please note, however, that in Austria accommodation in a special-class single or double room is not possible unless the entire treatment or stay is billed at the special-class rate, including medical fees.
